Emerging markets need twice theinfrastructure investment they now receive. East Asia hasthe greatest needs, while Africa’s requirements are large incomparison to its economic size; power generation accountsfor more than half of needed investment. There is greatpotential for increasing participation by institutionalinvestors in developing-country infrastructure: insurancecompanies, asset managers, pension funds, and sovereignwealth funds are increasingly aware of the manifold benefitsthat infrastructure investments offer.
