【 摘 要 】

As COVID-19 continues to disrupt theEthiopian economy, a major concern is that the pre-existinggendered challenges facing women entrepreneurs, in access tocapital and hired labor, for example, will worsen, furtherundermining the survival and performance of women-ownedfirms. However, very little data exist to monitor the genderdifferences in impacts brought about by the COVID-19pandemic. Therefore, in April 2020, the World Bank launcheda high-frequency phone survey (HFPS-F) of a random sample offirms in Addis Ababa to collect detailed information on firmoperations, hiring and firing, and expectations of futureoperations and labor demand. The analysis that follows drawson the three rounds of the HFPS-F survey implemented betweenApril 15 and June 18, 2020, consisting of a balanced panelof 454 firms from Addis Ababa.
