The El Salvador Strengthening PublicHealth Care System Project’s success resulted largely fromthe Salvadoran government’s unwavering commitment to andownership of the Project and its goals. The Project achievedits objectives and beyond and supported shaping the futureprovision of health care services in the country.Theimprovement of the quality of health services was ensuredthrough major updates in medical and non-medical equipment,rehabilitation of hospitals, training of health-careworkers, prompt response to emergences and expanding thehealth ministry’s capacity to analyze health data. TheProject ensured for first time in the public services a fullcycle of treatment for cancer patients by creating theNational Radiotherapy Center for Cancer; improved responseto infectious diseases with the strengthening of theNational Reference Laboratory; and ensured protection of theinvestment on equipment with the creation of the NationalMedical Equipment Maintenance center and affiliated regional units.
