Environmental Restoration Program: Quarterly Progress Report Second Quarter Fiscal Year 2011 (January 1 to March 31, 2011) for the Ernest Orlando Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory Hazardous Waste Facility Permit.
This quarterly progress report describes the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Corrective Action Program (CAP) activities conducted by the Ernest Orlando Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) during the second quarter of fiscal year 2011 (FY11) (January through March 2011), the current reporting period. These activities primarily consist of continued operation of the corrective measures approved by the California Environmental Protection Agency Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) to clean up contaminated groundwater and monitoring groundwater quality to assess progress towards achieving the required groundwater cleanup levels. The groundwater monitoring data indicate that the corrective measures continue to be effective in reducing concentrations of contaminants in the groundwater, groundwater plumes are stable or attenuating, and contaminants are not migrating offsite in the groundwater. LBNL is currently in the Corrective Measures Implementation (CMI) phase of the CAP, which consists of the design, construction, operation, maintenance, and monitoring of the corrective measures approved by the DTSC.
