【 摘 要 】

The legislation directs the Secretary of Energy to support research, development, demonstration, and commercial application activities related to advanced solid-state lighting technologies. This law specifically directs the Secretary to: (1) Develop SSL technologies based on white LEDs that are longer lasting, more energy-efficient, and cost-competitive compared to traditional lighting technologies; (2) Competitively select an Industry Alliance to represent participants that are private, for-profit firms that, as a group, are broadly representative of United States solid-state lighting research, development, infrastructure, and manufacturing expertise; (3) Carry out the research activities of the Next Generation Lighting Initiative through competitively awarded grants to researchers, including Industry Alliance participants, National Laboratories, and research institutions; (4) Solicit comments to identify SSL research, needs, and progress. Develop roadmaps in consultation with the industry alliance; and (5) Manage an on-going development, demonstration, and commercial application program for the Next Generation Lighting Initiative through competitively selected awards.
