Experimental and analytical studies were conducted on the spallation behavior of alumina oxide scales on two Ni-based model alloys and one Fe-based model alloy. Oxide thicknesses of up to 5.0 pm were successfully grown on the Ni- based and Fe-based alloys, respectively, at an oxidation temperature of up to 1200C. Four-point bend tests were conducted on these specimens at room temperature and at 1000C to determine the critical strain energy release rates for delamination of oxide scales.
