Wind energy is one of the fastest growing electrical energy sources in the United States. The United States installed more than 5,300 megawatts (MW) of new wind energy capacity in 2007, and experts are forecasting for as much, or more, to be installed in 2008. The cumulative installed capacity in the United States as of December 31, 2007, was 16,904 MW.
