【 摘 要 】

The physics program and the experimental equipment of the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer, CLAS, are described. The spectrometer is located in Hall B, one of the three experimental areas at the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) operated by the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. The CLAS subsystems, actual operating experience, and examples for the results obtained during the first eight months of physics running are discussed.
