【 摘 要 】

Being aware of the multiple benefits of urban green space, city councils all over the world have started to promote and implement the concept of urban forestry. While most urban forestry strategies, in Australia and overseas, provide tree coverage targets to be achieved over the next 15 to 35 years, there is no clear process outlined that describes where these millions of new trees should be planted to maximise the benefits from tree establishment. At a local level, this project will provide important information to assist decision making for tree planting at Wyndham Council, a key growth area in Melbourne’s west. Wyndham is a member of the Greening the West (GTW) initiative, a partnership of councils, government agencies and industry and community groups that have set regional targets for increasing canopy cover and green space in Melbourne’s west. It is expected the learnings from this project will be beneficial for Greening the West partner councils and City West Water as GTW facilitator.
