【 摘 要 】
Uranium and neptunium desorption were studied in long-term laboratoryexperiments using four well-characterized volcanic tuff cores collected from southeast ofYucca Mountain, Nevada. The objectives of the experiments were to1. Demonstrate a methodology aimed at characterizing distributions of sorptionparameters (attributes of multiple sorption sites) that can be applied tomoderately-sorbing species in heterogeneous systems to provide more realisticreactive transport parameters and a more realistic approach to modeling transportin heterogeneous systems.2. Focus on uranium and neptunium because of their high solubility, relatively weaksorption, and high contributions to predicted dose in Yucca Mountainperformance assessments. Also, uranium is a contaminant of concern at manyDOE legacy sites and uranium mining sites.
