These Regulations, for purposes of improvement of maritime safety and the prevention of pollution by ships, prescribe the regulatory framework establishing the fundamental principles governing the investigation of accidents in the maritime transport sector. The Regulations designate the Marine Casualty Investigation Board as the permanent Investigative Body in Ireland to investigate marine casualties and accidents.
