【 摘 要 】

The haor wetlands of northeastern Bangladesh—large bowl-shaped floodplains that remain submerged for much of the year—are among the most climate-vulnerable agroecosystems in South Asia. This study investigates farmers’ perceptions of climatic hazards, analyzes long-term climate trends, and identifies adaptation strategies in the Netrokona haor region. Data were gathered using a mixed-method approach from 250 farm households through structured surveys, complemented by 10 key informant interviews (KIIs) and 5 focus group discussions (FGDs). Historical climate records (1976–2022) were analyzed to validate farmers’ perceptions. Results show that 94.60% of respondents perceived rising temperatures, 60.30% reported declining rainfall, and 95.30% observed more frequent climatic hazards, consistent with meteorological data. Flash floods (87.50%), heat waves (78.10%), and lightning strikes (75.70%) were the most frequently reported hazards, with flash floods ranking highest on the participatory hazard index (PHI; score 40). Adaptation responses varied: 64.30% adjusted planting schedules, 43.80% adopted short-duration rice varieties, 31.90% used stress-tolerant crops, and 52.80% increased pesticide use. Logistic regression analysis revealed that adjusting planting schedules (B = 0.901, p <0.001, odds ratios [OR] = 2.46) and adopting new crop varieties (B = 0.789, p <0.001, OR = 2.20) were the strongest predictors of adaptation, while reliance on high-interest loans (B = −0.438, p=0.013, OR = 0.65) or selling property (B = −0.511, p=0.005, OR = 0.60) was negatively associated with resilience. The study shows that farmers’ perceptions closely align with observed climatic trends, yet adaptation remains constrained by socioeconomic barriers. Findings provide evidence-based insights for designing climate-resilient policies and promoting adaptive agricultural practices in Bangladesh’s haor wetlands.
