We prove the stability of the Wigner equation \[f(x)/f(y)]\ = \[x/y]\ with its approximate solutions defined by the inequality \\[(f(x)/f(y)]\ - \[x/y]\\ less than or equal to phi (x, y) which holds on a restricted domain and for a given, suitable function phi. (C) 2001 Academic Press.
