Enantioselective alkylation of chiral amide enolates derived From L-prolinol with beta-branched chiral iodides afforded good yields of hydroxy amide adducts. which were elaborated in four steps to give C-carboxyalkyl dipeptide inhibitors of stromelysin-1 (MMP-3).
