【 摘 要 】
Slow crack growth rates were measured in blends of UHMWPE particles in a matrix of HDPE. Microscopic examinations of the growing crack showed how the UHMWPE particles bridge the crack while it propagated in the HDPE matrix. The rate of crack propagation was related to the volume fraction of the UHMWPE particles by the equation delta(p) = delta(p) (0) [1 - (sigma(f)/sigma)C]4.5, where C is the volume fraction and sigma(f)/sigma is the ratio of the counterstress exerted by particles with respect to the applied stress and the power n comes from the empirical observation that delta(p) approximately delta-4.5. From the data sigma(f) = 3-sigma.
