A palladium NHC complex is used to catalyze the addition of ortho iodophenols to diazabicyclic alkenes. The product cyclopenta[b]benzofurans are then derivatized by the Suzuki reaction, and reduction of the N-N bond and followed by conversion of the amines into amides. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd.
