【 摘 要 】

The intent of this study is to analyze the effect of different coating thickness ofTitanium Nitride (TiN) on the carbide insert while machining mild steel at dry machiningcondition. The carbide insert was coated with Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) techniquewith varying thickness of 3µm,6µm, and 9µm. The coating thickness wasanalyzed throughmicrostructure examination. The machining is done with varying spindle speed, feed rateandconstant depth of cut. Performance of the insert is analyzed based on the surface quality ofmachined component. The results revealed that surface roughness of the machined mild steelcomponent with coated insert is low when compared to the surface machined with uncoatedinsert and also, increase in coating thickness from 3 µm to 9 µm of coated inserts decreasesthe surface roughness of the mild steel component considerably.
