【 摘 要 】

According to new European guidelines for selection of bridge guardrails, it is necessary to consider not only the vehicle containment criterion, but also the impact on vehicle users, and deformation to the vehicle containment system. Impact protection criteria and guardrail selection guidelines are presented. The procedure for defining an average vehicle impact force is given based on the required containment level testing and guardrail deformation level. The effects registered on the old Rječina bridge and the new Rječina bridge are compared.
