【 摘 要 】
The epidemic of the COVID-19 virus has had a profound impact onpractically every element of modern life. It covers the tragic societal effects onmorbidity and mortality, the societal disruptions caused by self-quarantiningand social distancing as a mitigation strategy, and the importance of asystematic and well-funded data collection infrastructure to support publichealth decisions and data modeling that supports those decisions. Finally,we might speculate on the impact of the COVID-19 problem on biostatisticsand epidemiology. What the disciplines of biostatistics/epidemiology have tooffer the COVID-19 experience directly relates to the public's understanding ofthe need for and consequences of rigorous diagnostic testing, test accuracymetrics, screening strategies, understanding basic statistical concepts suchas rates of occurrence, statistical models based on daily counts of numeratorcases however defined and associated mortality, and statistical projectionsusing compartmental and multivariable models.
