【 摘 要 】

In an article in this issue of Bone & JointResearch, Wang et al1 report results from ameta-analysis on studies investigating theefficacy of stem cell therapies to treat osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee ("Mesenchymal stemcells - a promising strategy for treating kneeosteoarthritis: a meta-analysis"). The resultsare interesting and suggest that adiposederived stem cells may be more effective thanbone marrow-derived, and that low-dosetherapies may result in better outcomes thanhigh-dose therapies. What is also of interestis the limited number of subanalyses thatwere performed. The authors investigatedthe effects of stem cell dose and source (bothdonor site and autologous vs allogenic) butno other patient factors such as age, sex, orethnicity. This may well be due to the limitedway in which the results are reported ratherthan any lack of questioning on the authors’part.
