【 摘 要 】
The term femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) was coined in 1999 by theGanz group from Switzerland,1 but whatis often overlooked is that descriptionsof the morphology have existed in theliterature for centuries. We completed anon-systematic review of the literature touncover the origins of FAI, also published inthis issue of Bone & Joint Research.2FAI has seemingly existed for over 5,000years,3 but the anatomical study by Henle in18554 was the first to describe it in the literature. Since then, key anatomical, radiological, and surgical discoveries have beenmade. Ganz et al5 then organized theseseemingly disparate past findings whileadding their own experience from opensurgical dislocations of the hip to describeFAI in its entirety, from mechanism to treatment. This has served as the foundation toour knowledge on FAI. Since then, there hasbeen an exponential rise in the literatureregarding FAI. This infographic summarizesthe important phases in the history of FAI.
