【 摘 要 】

NW: I was an undergraduate at a small liberal arts collegein Minnesota, and I was pre-med because that was theoption that I thought existed for someone interested in biology.I took an entomology course, and I secretly loved insects but Ididn’t want to tell anyone. That really changed my view of what Iwanted to do. It was around then that I realized that someone hasto be the professor, someone who doesn’t just regurgitate knowledge but generates it. I was kind of battling with myself, thinking,“Who am I going to let down by saying I don’t want to be a doctoranymore?” Everyone in my family had been expecting that. It’sthe first normal break with family that hopefully every personmakes when they realize that it’s their life and not their parent’slife. It’s your life, you’re an adult, and you get to decide what to dowith your life, not your parents.
