【 摘 要 】
This year, BSJ had the pleasure of interviewingProfessor George Bentley. Professor Bentley’sresearch interests include avian reproductivebiology, neuroendocrinology and behavior. As an ornithologist, Professor Bentley hascompleted extensive studies on song controlsystems. Endocrine and behavioral responsesto stimuli such as vocalizations have beendocumented for decades, yet the “black box”approach has been applied to any explanationof the brain’s involvement. Any externalstimulus has to be first monitored by and thenresponded to by the brain for the stimulusto have a physiological effect. To affect thereproductive axis, these stimuli must influencethe gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH)system. Much of Professor Bentley’s recentwork has been on the recently identifiedneuropeptide, gonadotropin-inhibitoryhormone (GnIH). BSJ had the opportunity tolearn more about the role of stress in the GnRHsystem.
