【 摘 要 】

Grains of field crops, suchas wheat, maize, faba bean and whitebean, are considered strategic food forhumanity worldwide and Egypt.Unfortunately, percent losses of grainsquantity may reach to 15-30%, as a resultof stored product insect damage, and thelosses increased dramatically in the lastyears, as an outcome of quicklyproductions of these pests. Experimentswere conducted on infrared thermalimaging that demonstrate early detectionof infestation by stored product insects inwheat, maize, broad bean, white bean andbean grains. The imaging is dependent onsubtle significant differences intemperature between infested and healthygrains. Because the thermal imaging dataare digital, computer programs can beused to analysis differences intemperature and mining figures explainedfor that. Results revealed that the use ofthermal imaging offers an alternativemethod to detect an insect infestation.Data concluded that thermal imaging hasthe potential to identify whether the grainsof crops that tested are infested or not, butis less effective in identifying whichdevelopmental stage is present. Moreover,it could apply this technique easily on alarge scale in silos, storage, mills andgranaries without negative impact onquality of stored grains.
