【 摘 要 】
Post-harvest losses, particularly along the rice value chain, havebeen highlighted as a major source ofreduction in revenue among the valuechain actors. It is therefore imperative thatempirical assessment of the magnitudeand determinants be investigated, so as tobe able to provide a reliable policy standthat can help reduce these losses. Patigiand Edu local government areas werepurposively sampled from Kwara state,Nigeria, since they are the majorproducers of rice in the State. Data weregathered through the use of aquestionnaire from 40 rice farmers,40 rice processors and 40 rice marketers.Descriptive statistics and multiple linearregression model were used to analyze thedata. The result showed that the loss washighest for farmers at 41-50 kg(₦14402.40) (1 Naira = 0.002772 U.S. $),31-40 kg (₦2383.20) for processors andat less than 11 kg (₦398.30) for themarketers. Household size and farm sizewere significant at 1% in determiningpost-harvest losses for farmers, while onlythe household size was significant indetermining post-harvest losses forprocessors. It was thus recommended thatefficient milling machine should beintroduced, particularly to rural riceprocessors, such that quality grains can beachieved.
