Characterization of Pomegranate Cultivars in Palm Groves of the Oued Righ Valley (South-Eastern Algeria)

【 摘 要 】

Varietal recognition is a keystep for good management of geneticdiversity. Indeed, the morphologicaldescription of certain organs, such as theleaves, flowers, fruits and seeds, allow amore or less rapid and reliableidentification of the varieties or cultivars.The culture of the pomegranate tree isvery known in the valley of Oued Righ inthe Algerian Southern, and it constitutesthe main fruit species with a number oftrees of 27.77 % of total number. Thepomegranate tree is found in more than84% of the farms of the region and itsproduction is complementary of that ofthe dates. Unfortunately, no study hasbeen realized on the characterization andthe valorization of this species. To knowand identify the varieties or the existingcultivars, we have undertaken a work ofcharacterization of clones cultivated in thevalley of Oued Righ. The plant materialconstituted by 13 clones of pomegranatetree stemming from various farms.The method of work consists in taking 20fruits by tree for physico-chemicalanalyses in the laboratory. The results ofanalyses on sample of 13 clones describedfive cultivars, among which some presentacceptable characters of fruit from acaliber point of view, contents in sugarsand acidity. It shows that the naming ofcultivars by the farmers based only on theacid taste of fruits "Hamad" or sweetened"Hlou" is not scientific and remaininsufficient. Our results confirm theusefulness of morphological descriptors inthe characterization of plant geneticresources. However, more clarificationcan be achieved by the undeniablecontribution of molecular markers.
