【 摘 要 】
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC), 100,306 drug overdose deaths occurred in the U.S. during a12-month period ending in April 2021.1 This is a total increase of 28.5%from 78,056 deaths during the same period the year before. Opioidswere involved in 75% of these related deaths; 82% being synthetic.Fentanyl, an analgesic compound, is 50 times more potentthan heroin and 100 times more potent than morphine.2 The latestprogression of the opioid epidemic is due to the introduction of nonpharmaceutical fentanyl (NPF), including fentanyl analogs and othernovel synthetic opioids. The illicit drug industry is plagued with widespread fentanyl adulteration, which increases overdose risk for personswho use non-prescribed opioids.3 Fentanyl testing strips have grown inpopularity to help individuals with safer drug use practices, but they areconsidered illegal to use in outpatient clinics per the Drug EnforcementAdministration (DEA); advanced and legal technology to detect NPFand analogs more easily and accurately is required.
