【 摘 要 】

One of the key concepts in heredity is the gene. Genes are segments of DNA that code for specific traits. They arelocated on chromosomes, which are structures in the nucleus of the cell that contain DNA. Humans have 23 pairsof chromosomes, for a total of 46 chromosomes. Each chromosome contains hundreds or thousands of genes. Thespecific combination of genes on a person’s chromosomes determines their traits, such as eye color, hair color andheight.
