【 摘 要 】

The scientific literature provides a description of variousmodels depicting autonomous agricultural machinesworking to complete typical field operations. Many of themodels involve some form of automation interface that isused by the machine owner to supervise the operation of themachine from a remote location. The objective of this studywas to interview experts in the design of autonomousagricultural machines (university researchers, entrepreneurs, and leaders in the agricultural machinerysector) to ascertain their opinions about future autonomousagricultural machines, particularly related to how suchmachines will be supervised by the machine’s owner. Of thefour remote supervision concepts described by participants(within the field, close to the field, from the farm office, andoutside the farm site), the close-to-the-field remotesupervision concept was determined to be the most viableconcept. Designers were divided on the idea of providingreal-time live video on the automation interface, however, most of them believed that having live video would reassurethe farmer that everything was going well. Desktopcomputer, tablet and phone were the main devicesrecommended as tools for remote supervision (i.e., thehardware on which to display the automation interface),with tablet perhaps being the preferred alternative.
