【 摘 要 】

The organizers and all AGS members were saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Alan Stuart Ruffman. He was a marinegeologist, civic activist, disaster historian, and long-time member of AGS. Alan died peacefully at his home in Halifax onDecember 28, 2022, at the age of 82. He will be greatly missed as a passionate member of the society, especially his input onbetter ways to run the society. As a result, Alan, posthumously received the AGS Distinguished Service Award (Laing FergusonAward) in recognition of his exceptional and altruistic contributions to the Atlantic Geoscience Society and to fostering thepublic appreciation of Atlantic geoscience over a long period of time.
