【 摘 要 】
Several experimental and clinical studies have transformed thetraditional antimalarial role of chloroquine (CHQ) and relatedstructural analogues to potent therapeutic agents for a hostof nonmalarial indications. The expanding clinical applicabilityfor these drugs includes rheumatological and cardiovasculardisorders (CVD), chronic kidney disease (CKD), oncology, and avariety of nonmalarial infections. These clinical advancementsare primarily related to pleiotropic pharmacological actions ofthese drugs, including immunomodulation, anti-inflammatoryproperties, and capabilities of inducing autophagy andapoptosis at a cellular level. Historically, many clinical benefitsin nonmalarial indications were first recognized throughserendipitous observations; however, with numerous ongoingsystematic clinical studies, the clinical horizons of these drugshave a promising future.
