【 摘 要 】
Tourism is an importantsource of income for manymountain communities inNepal. However, the tourismindustry is highly vulnerableto a variety of naturalhazards. The ability of localpeople to proactively prepare, protect, and support prevention activities against natural hazardsdrives a mountain community’s resilience. Research on whetherand to what extent people have adopted such proactive behaviorshas shown that human action is determined not only bysociodemographic and socioeconomic conditions—such as age, gender, or income—but also by values and worldviews. In thispaper, we present data from a 2-phased survey of 160 lodgeowners conducted in 2017 and 2018 in Mustang, Nepal, focusingon lodge owners’ activities in disaster risk reduction (DRR) andtheir values and worldviews. Classifying the preparedness andsupport for prevention (PSP) activities of lodge owners, we found 3different PSP types. In a second step, these PSP types werecontrasted with values and worldviews held by the lodge owners,as well as sociodemographic and socioeconomic factors. Thisrevealed strong correlations between the lodge owners’ values andtheir PSP type. These results indicate that when trying to explainan actor’s DRR activities, his or her values might be as importantas commonly used sociodemographic and socioeconomicindicators. We argue that a holistic concept of resilience—combining actors’ values and worldviews as well as theirsociodemographic and socioeconomic status—can strengthenefforts to build resilience.
