【 摘 要 】

The purpose of the study is to analyze the history and theory of film editing from the Soviet avant-garde films to modern editing practice, the influence of L. Kuleshov, S. Eisenstein, D. Vertov and other founders of the theory and practice of editing on modern cinema. The purpose of the study is also an analysis of the history and functions of editing as a highly specialized cinematographic technique and an assessment of the avant-garde editing relevance in our time. Research methodology. The proposed publication has used a system-analytical approach to define the goals and strategies in scientific research, namely, using special methods and techniques, analyzed the development of film editing: from Soviet avant-garde to modern practice. Scientific novelty consists in approbation of the scientific problem, namely, in determining the development of editing which is based on the research and analysis of editing of the Soviet avant-garde of the 1920s and modern editing practices. The practical significance of the obtained results is that for the first time the influence of the avant-garde theories of editing of Soviet directors on the non-linear editing of modern practices has been analyzed. Conclusions. According to the objective of the study, it was found that Soviet avant-gardists undeniably influenced modern editing practices. By their experiments, S. Eisenstein, D. Vertov, and L. Kuleshev proved that editing is not only assemblage of films or individual frames into a movie, but also a tool for the development of storyline and an collateral way of transferring the idea of the picture. Without their works, there would be no modern cinema, as we see it today. Every modern director and editor knows and uses the techniques of Soviet avant-garde.
