【 摘 要 】
Monseigneur took part to several military campaigns between 1688 and 1694. While his father held high hopes for him, and despite the glorious storming of Philippsburg in 1688, he didn’t show great talent for troop management, neither in terms of discipline nor in strategic direction. Closely supervised by the generals, Louvois’ trustworthy men such as Chamlay and Saint-Pouange, as well as the king himself, his freedom for initiative, in fact, was very limited as they feared for his safety and wanted to avoid risk as much as possible. Monseigneur did not seek to escape his constraints, and he was never involved in a battle, and he never succeeded in establishing himself against the army leaders, and eventually he lost interest in the details of military operations.
