【 摘 要 】

The international community agrees on a definition of religious heritage, presented as being universal and encompassing inherited values, which reinforce its sacred and living nature. This recognition has helped highlighting the need for this type of heritage to benefit from specific politics in terms of management and protection, which would take into consideration its spiritual nature, and involve religious communities. Nonetheless, the definition of religious heritage by the international community relies on keywords - «religion», «traditional», «sacred», «spiritual» - that are not clearly defined themselves. Moreover, this definition does not specify the objects, sites and monuments it includes, leaving room for interpretation. In addition, the meaning of the words used for religious heritage can vary depending on the languages, cultures, political interests and social evolutions. It is hence up to the States to carve the definition of religious heritage by choosing whether to display its material and immaterial riches, or even by revising it when it is not fitting political interests anymore.
