【 摘 要 】
Small sacred architecture is a traditional element of many cultural and scenic landscapes throughout Europe. Although the individual elements of this sacred architecture are small, they are well distributed in landscape structure and their network on a large scale forms shared cultural heritage with significant spiritual, historical, architectural and artistic values. Small sacred objects, including crosses, shrines, columns, statues, chapels and other forms are always meaningfully integrated in local landscapes so that they create a sense of place and spiritual atmosphere. This small sacred architecture is found in everyday cultural landscapes and exceptional scenic landscapes in both urban and rural settings. This type of architecture is present in both Roman Catholic and Orthodox regions and it is often accompanied by natural elements, such as trees, shrubs or perennials. This is especially apparent in Catholic landscape “stations of the cross” and the “Bethlehem” nativity expositions. With or without trees, small sacred monuments are important landmarks and they are characteristic features of unique European scenic landscapes. Their protection and preservation for future generation must therefore remain a cultural heritage protection priority.
