【 摘 要 】

In this article the Author is concerned in examining how the jesuits dealed with the translation of central notions and concepts in order to christianize the indians in Brazil during the XVIth century. The creation of a special tupi language which could serve as an instrument of communication between missionaries and indians is analysed.
