【 摘 要 】

This paper aims analyze Memórias Póstumas de Bras Cubas aesthetic procedure, published in 1881 by Machado de Assis, evidencing throughout “redução estrutural” concept, the modernization and Brazilian technologic insertion process. This process can be explained by our own national historic configuration, mainly the dynamic from the XIX century society, regulated by favour, interests and appearance relations. It was checked that machadiana literature, like a Brazilian cultural phenomenon, enables, by the aesthetic object, the reality knowledge and its transformation possibilities.
