【 摘 要 】
The sociological study of media debates and public action in France between 2013 and 2017 on open access to scientific and didactic publications in the humanities and social sciences from the university system, in terms of the preservation of pluralism, makes it possible to emphasize the interest of distinguishing conceptually "free access" to knowledge and "open access" to publications. In the configuration studied, governmental and militant public action in favor of open access is oriented towards centralization and control purposes, which gradually distance it from the philosophical ideal of free access to knowledge. This phenomenon gives the opportunity to rethink the meaning of the word "free", in « free access » to knowledge, seeking to better identify the freedoms - inextricably linked to the authors and readers - necessary for the research and the teaching in humanities and social sciences.
