【 摘 要 】

The aim of this paper is to provide a relatively good overview of theoretical approaches of the state strength concept, which could be useful for Security studies scholars in making theoretical and methodological efforts in finding appropriate approach for their research related to state strength and relations between states. Theoretical approaches to the concept of state strength can be conditionally reduced to two basic: institutional and ideational approaches, and two alternative and yet insufficiently theoretically concluded approaches: post-colonial and taxonomy approach. The paper also presents the main advantages and disadvantages of each of these approaches, key ideas and authors, as well as the hypothesis about the behavior of weak states, which can be generated by applying these theoretical approaches.
