【 摘 要 】

João Guimarães Rosa (1908-1967) was initially seen as a regionalist diplomat-writer. Actually, his work illustrates two types of cosmopolitanism. The first one is biographical as he was an itinerant sertão doctor who then became a diplomat posted in Europe and Latin America. The second one is literary, through his great lexical creativity and post-Babelian literary dream. Rosa’s double cosmopolitanism can be analyzed through the prism of ecopoetics and zoopoetics. The notions of crossing and metamorphosis – which are central in the work of the Brazilian novelist – link Rosa’s biographical and literary cosmopolitanisms and lead to a new perception of man’s relations with his environment. The wandering donkey who inhabits the cosmos travels through literary and geographic spaces along with the Rosian man, from Ancient times with Apuleus’s Golden Ass to the edge of death.
