【 摘 要 】
Municipal wastewater treatments were mainly carried out by activated sludge currently, for which anoxic/oxic(A/O) was widely accepted to enhance nitrogen(N)removals. In this process, wastewater flows back and forth between A and O tanks together with sludge because there is not independent settled tank for A and O tanks. In this work, the conventional backflow was compared with a novel backflow technique without sludge to investigate if nitrification and denitrification could be enhanced, based on a patent "vertical baffled bioreactor"(VBBR) that could realize separation of sludge from wastewater easily. Experimental results showed that nitrification rate increased by 12%, and denitrification rate increased by 2.5 folds compared with the conventional process. The results lay a good theoretical and practical foundation for efficient denitrification in the future municipal wastewater treatment.
