【 摘 要 】

This article intends to find out if forest certification can cause competitiveness and environmental preservation to converge in order to generate competitive advantage for those who adopt it. The analysis was based on a case study in the only property of Brazil with an FSC erva-mate (Yerba mate) certification. The study leads to two main conclusions: there is a 20% to 67% increase in the product’s final price, according to the market; access to market niches (organic and ecological products), new markets (cosmetics industry); and the opening of potential markets (pharmaceutical industry).
