【 摘 要 】
Numerous studies operate a clear distinction between two urbanistic periods, the one from the Trente Glorieuses and the one from the turn of the millennium. Drawing on the development paths of the Swiss cities of Zurich and Winterthur, this article shows that the transition between these two periods of time is not linear. This process is also made of major failures caused by the hybrid character of downtown projects elaborated through the 1980s and 1990s. However, from the very beginning of the 2000s, fairly similar projects materialize by learning from previous failures. We analyse this tipping point and show that failed projects can also considerably accelerate the transformation of central urban areas.
