【 摘 要 】
Abstract Introduction This team-based learning (TBL) module is designed to be used in a human gross anatomy course for medical or other health-related professions. It teaches students the gross anatomy of the shoulder and scapular region and provides a clinical case-based exercise for the application of this knowledge. The content included in this module is suited for a variety of health science disciplines including medicine, dentistry, physical and occupational therapy. Methods Using the standard TBL format, it teaches students clinically oriented gross anatomy of the shoulder and scapular region. The case study involves a rotator cuff tear and takes students through the anatomy and function of the rotator cuff muscles. Results This TBL module was one of 33 that have been implemented into the gross anatomy courses at the University of Central Arkansas and Harding University physical therapy programs. Within these courses, TBL is used as a supplement to cadaveric dissection to stress clinical and critical thinking in the context of anatomy. Data collected (quantitative and qualitative) has indicated that the use of TBL in anatomy improves student performance on the anatomy final exam and that it improves student perceptions about teamwork. Discussion We chose TBL as a structured method of engaging students who could not dissect due to these limitations. One clear drawback to this method is that each student misses some of the TBL modules and dissections. Restraints on student contact time in gross anatomy have prevented us from exposing every student to all TBL modules during class time. However, all students were provided access to all TBL learning objectives prior to the TBL sessions for the purpose of independent studying.
