【 摘 要 】

In 1935, the Mexican photographer Lola Álvarez Bravo produced a socially militant photomontage in which a child, asleep on the street, is about to be crushed by a cataract of coins representing the power of money and the cruelty of capitalism. Her title, The Sleep of the Poor, recalls that of a famous mural by Diego Rivera, made in 1923 at the Ministry of Public Education, entitled The Night of the Poor. After highlighting the different intention of the muralist and the photographer, the article studies another picture by Lola bearing the same title but with a different tone, compares it with contemporary pictures by other photographers, and, finally, with another picture by Lola on the same theme. Some conjunctions and disjunctions then appear between the political and the poetical in the Mexican visual culture of the period spanning from the 1930s to the 1960s.
