【 摘 要 】
Background: The common psychiatric disorder of attentiondeficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and the knowledge ofteachers about it are well discussed in literature. While teacherscan play an important role for the management of ADHD, it isnot clear whether informing of teachers about children withADHD affects their behavior and attitude toward the children. Inthe present study, we studied whether the disclosure of childrenwith ADHD is associated with social rejection and negative attitudeof their teachers. In addition, we studied the perception ofteachers for treatment and its benefits. Methods: A total of 558 primary school teachers of students ingrade I in Shiraz, south of Iran, participated in this study. Theycompleted the questionnaires after studying one of the randomlyselected four vignettes. One of the vignettes with inattentive typeand one of the vignettes with hyperactive-impulsive typesymptoms were not labeled as ADHD children. Results: The teachers did not show any difference in theirattitude on various types of disclosed and undisclosed ADHDvignettes. The four groups of teachers were not differentregarding their belief for treatment and its benefits. Conclusion: Parents of the children with ADHD could beassured that informing of teachers about the disorder does notcause the social rejection or negative attitude towards theaffected children. Lack of difference among the teacher groupsfor the necessity of the treatment and its benefits shows thattheir knowledge about ADHD is not enough. Improving theknowledge of teachers about ADHD is a preceding step fordisclosing the children's disorder.
