【 摘 要 】
This article discusses the educational practices in labor unions of the Court and the Province of Rio de Janeiro from the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth century. From the analysis of statutes and reports of societies for mutual assistance and charity was possible to see the active role of men and women workers in their own education. The knowledge derived from associative experience and the struggle of people classified as adverse for learning for its own education constitute the history of popular education and making of the working class in Rio de Janeiro.
