【 摘 要 】

The paper emphasizes the importance of participatory research in the assessment of vulnerability to environmental change and extreme events. The focus is on different forms of population involvement (communication, consultation and participation) and their role in obtaining primary data on the components of vulnerability (exposure, sensitivity and adaptive capacity). Two case-studies conducted in Romania are summarized in order to sustain the theoretical remarks.
