【 摘 要 】

We analyzed in this article afro-descendants militiamen of Pernambuco and São Paulo, captaincies of the Portuguese America. We examine the ways in which these people lived and represented the transition process from a society of the old or oligarchic kind to a society of the representative and democratic kind, that appears in the era of the Atlantic Revolutions. In a first moment, is examined the genesis and the institutionalization of those regiments as a phenomenon that results of the establishment of the economies linked to the Atlantic market and based on the African slavery, as well as of a social roots process and change of status lived by the free and freed afro-descendants. Such processes concerning to the connections plans, structural regularities and recurrences can be observed in others slave figurations that has integrated the comprehensive social configuration of the Atlantic World. At the same time, we argue that the different levels and temporalities relating the genesis and institutionalization of the militias in São Paulo and Pernambuco sheds light on the understanding of the movements and aspirations of those militiamen in the revolutionary era.
